The station is the highest-altitude facility with the largest installed capacity of its kind on the upper reaches of the Yellow River. It is the core section of the company's first 10 million-kilowatt all-clean-energy integrated base in Qinghai.

The first generator unit of the station is scheduled to be put into operation on April 1.

Once fully operational, the station is expected to generate more than 7.3 billion kilowatt-hours annually, equaling that produced by burning approximately 2.2 million tons of standard coal and a reduction of about 8.16 million tons of carbon dioxide.

The first generator unit of the Maerdang Hydropower Station is currently undergoing equipment status inspection, adjustment, test data analysis, and grid-connection preparation.
