Zhengzhou Launches First Freight Train to Europe Via Southern Corridor Route

Updated: January 15, 2025

A China-Europe freight train carrying goods such as tires, tire molds, photovoltaic components and small household appliances recently departed from Zhengzhou Railway Station in central China’s Henan Province.

The train passed through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to Budapest, Hungary.

This marks another significant breakthrough for Zhongyu Port Group, following the launch of southern corridor routes to Baku and Istanbul last year. The new route establishes a direct passage to Europe, further diversifying and strengthening the multi-channel logistics system while enhancing the company’s influence in international freight transport.

Unlike the traditional southern corridor routes, this train crosses the Caspian Sea to Baku and proceeds by rail through Tbilisi, Georgia, directly to Turkey without crossing the Black Sea, significantly enhancing transport efficiency.

The launch of this southern corridor route to Europe will further strengthen trade ties between China and Mediterranean as well as Central and Eastern European countries. It also introduces new multi-route services for Western European nations, enhancing the flexibility and resilience of China-Europe freight train operations.

Zhongyu Port Group now operates 19 direct international routes, expanding its coverage and increasing its logistical capacity.
