China Unicom Hainan Lingshui International Submarine Cable Landing Station Tops Out

Updated: May 20, 2025

China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Unicom) recently announced the topping out of the main structure of its Hainan Lingshui International Submarine Cable Landing Station.

Once completed, the facility will serve as a key landing and convergence point for two major international submarine cable systems — SEA-H2X and ALC — linking Hainan with Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

International data transmission relies heavily on submarine fiber-optic cables, and landing stations are the core terrestrial facilities for these systems. They serve as critical nodes that connect undersea cables with national backbone networks, facilitating seamless international communications across regions and countries.

The construction of the Lingshui International Submarine Cable Landing Station is a key initiative by China Unicom to support the high-level development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Once operational, the station will enable ultra-low-latency data transmission between Hainan and Southeast Asia. This will significantly benefit industries such as international trade, finance, scientific research, and cross-border data flows.

China Unicom will accelerate the construction of the landing station, the Haikou International Information Port, and the Haikou International Communications Gateway. Leveraging its international submarine cable network, the company aims to elevate Hainan’s strategic position in global communications infrastructure and help build the Free Trade Port into a key hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
