Customs-Port Cooperation Boosts Ro-Ro Exports at Dalian Port

Updated: June 12, 2025

A roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel carrying 1,200 domestically manufactured vehicles recently departed from Dalian Automobile Terminal, and bound for Mexico.

Since the expansion of the customs-supervised area in May, the export process for Chinese vehicles via Dalian Port has become increasingly efficient and streamlined, providing strong support for Chinese carmakers to access global markets.

With the rapid growth of China’s auto industry in recent years, Dalian Automobile Terminal has leveraged its location in Northeast China to build an integrated sea-land logistics network for automobile exports. The terminal has worked closely with local customs to strengthen customs-port collaboration and support the global reach of high-quality “Made in China” vehicles.

“The support from customs has helped us expand international shipping routes and streamline operations,” said Gai Shengbin, deputy manager of the terminal’s logistics department.

The customs area at the terminal was recently upgraded and expanded from 580,000 to 800,000 square meters, fully covering the operational zone. This expansion provides a solid foundation for the growth of Ro-Ro business. New measures such as advance declarations and direct loading have shortened clearance times and improved overall efficiency.

The expanded customs area also provides more space for vehicle storage and loading, boosting the terminal’s competitiveness in vehicle trade, international transshipment, and other services.

This year, new routes have connected Dalian with South Africa, the Mediterranean, and Mexico, serving brands like FAW, BMW Brilliance, and Chery. New services — including cross-border transit, oversized equipment export, and bonded logistics — continue to emerge, reinforcing Dalian’s role as a key hub for regional connectivity and international trade.
