SINOBUNKER, the marine fuel supply subsidiary of China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group), achieved a groundbreaking milestone by conducting the world’s first green marine ammonia bunkering operation at the COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.’s terminal in Dalian on July 25.
This achievement not only sets a new industry benchmark but also marks a significant step forward in China’s shipping sector toward achieving the “dual carbon” goals. The pioneering initiatives of COSCO SHIPPING Group are propelling sustainable development within the global shipping industry.
Compared with traditional marine fuels, green ammonia combustion produces only nitrogen and water, making it a breakthrough solution for shipping decarbonization. This pioneering practice provides a replicable technical model for the global application of new energy in ships and demonstrates COSCO SHIPPING Group’s commitment to advancing green shipping.
The green ammonia used in this operation was produced entirely with renewable electricity, achieving full integration of the green power-to-ammonia production, green ammonia transportation, fuel bunkering, and vessel operation chain. Thanks to its outstanding full life-cycle carbon management capabilities, the product’s environmental friendliness and sustainability have been highly recognized by international authorities. The product has not only obtained ISCC Plus but has also become the world’s first green ammonia product to be awarded Bureau Veritas’ Renewable Ammonia Certification.
