China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG) has advanced its comprehensive “AI plus” initiative and leveraged digital and intelligent technologies to build a new-generation digital power grid.
Coordination between Power and Computing Resources
CSG has integrated multiple business forms, such as computing power stations and energy storage stations, with its substations in Guangdong Province. The integration has significantly shortened the distance between power generation units and computing facilities, reduced line losses and increased reliability.
CSG has launched China’s first system tailored to coordinating power generation, carbon emissions and computing resources. The system is currently used to optimize resource allocation among multiple provinces, such as Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangsu. It is able to cut enterprises’ power costs by approximately 10 percent and facilitate the use of surplus green power generated in western China.

CSG has also developed three collaborative trading scenarios, namely nationwide green power procurement, flexible spot power trading and on-demand computing resources subscription. In May 2026, three data centers in Guangdong operated by China’s major telecommunications companies successfully procured spot power on the market through virtual power plants.
AI-Empowered Grid Operation
“MegaWatt · Yunrui” is an intelligent agent developed by CSG for integrated operation and planning of new-type distribution networks. It can identify potential problems, formulate plans, simulate and verify realities, evaluate investment and compile reports. Deployed on the grid in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, it has identified more than 10,000 risks and generated over 8,000 plans. Report data that used to take days to compile can be written up in minutes thanks to the intelligent agent.

CSG has independently produced intelligent embodied robots and has piloted them in multiple substations in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, two cities in Guangdong. They can autonomously perform routine operations, including inspecting switch cabinets and measuring infrared temperature. In addition, they can cut inspection time by 60 percent and improve emergency response efficiency by 70 percent.
Global Market Presence
CSG has cooperated with power enterprises in Global South countries in AI and other fields. CSG’s self-developed large model that is able to intelligently identify defects and dangers hidden in power transmission equipment has been used in Laos. It can automatically analyze thousands of inspection images within minutes, significantly improving local grid inspection efficiency.
CSG’s intelligent inspection robot dog “Feiyun” is also going global. Preparing for any potential issues and challenges the robot dogs may face after being exported to Chile, CSG has completed on-site surveys and model adaptation for new work scenarios.
