Laos’ first zero-carbon library, which was built and delivered with Chinese assistance, officially opened at Peace Secondary School in northern Laos' Luang Prabang on August 29.

The Zhejiang branch of State Grid Corporation of China played a leading role in delivering the project, which employs solar-storage-charging micro-grid technology. Photovoltaic facilities are installed on the library’s roof. During the day, power is generated via solar energy, and surplus power is stored in a storage system to sustain the supply at night.
Modules of the library were prefabricated in East China’s Zhejiang Province before being shipped to and assembled in Laos. The library, which is equipped with air conditioners, computers, televisions, Chinese‑Lao bilingual books and a digital library, offers students a space to read, search for information and study.

On the day of the opening, students from the Lao school also engaged in exchanges via video link with their peers in Zhejiang Province of China.
