Energy China Wins EPC Contract for Morocco’s Midelt I Solar Complex

Updated: September 14, 2026

China Energy Engineering Corporation (Energy China) has recently signed the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the Midelt Phase I solar-storage project in Morocco, Africa’s largest solar-storage project in a single site.

The project is crucial to Morocco’s energy transition, as it is expected to fully serve as a large‑scale energy storage system in maintaining a stable grid, regulating electricity frequency and enabling new energy to generate power in a more stable manner. It will substantially increase the flexibility and reliability of the local grid, and facilitate large‑scale development and efficient consumption of renewables like photovoltaic power, thus strongly supporting Morocco in achieving its 2030 renewable energy targets.

Energy China will draw on its strengths in planning, consulting, survey, design, engineering, construction, equipment integration and resource coordination, and continue to refine its technical solutions to press ahead with the project with high standards and quality.

The corporation will strive to build the project into a large‑scale solar‑storage demonstration project in Africa and a premium model for China‑Morocco green energy cooperation. It will also contribute its own wisdom and strength to advancing high‑quality Belt and Road cooperation and Morocco’s energy transition drive.
